Met Office issues dengue alert amid floods, heavy rains

WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a dengue alert due to ongoing floods and monsoon rains.

According to the Met Office, there is a risk of dengue spreading in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Sukkur, Hyderabad, Multan, and other flood-hit areas may also face a large-scale outbreak.

Officials said stagnant floodwater and poor drainage have created favourable conditions for mosquito breeding. This increases the threat of dengue in both urban centres and rural flood-affected regions.

The Met Office has advised health authorities, district administrations, and dengue control bodies to remain on high alert. Hospitals have also been asked to ensure full preparations for a possible rise in patients.
