WEBDESK: Faisalabad’s special anti-terrorism court on Monday has announced its verdict in the case of the 9 May attack on the residence of PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah.

The court tried a total of 109 accused, including senior PTI leaders and workers. Out of them, 75 were convicted and 34 acquitted.

According to the judgement, 59 convicts were sentenced to 10 years in prison each. Sheikh Rashid Javed and several others were given three-year terms. Fawad Chaudhry and Zain Qureshi were acquitted.

Those named in the case included PTI leaders Umar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, Sheikh Rashid Shafeeq, Muhammad Khan, Farkhanda Kokab, Muhammad Ahmed Chattha and Kanwal Shauzab.

The judgement was announced under strict security, with extra police deployed inside and outside the court.

The case was registered at Samanabad police station following the violent events of 9 May. After the trial, the court had reserved its decision earlier, which was delivered today.

This was the fourth verdict announced in connection with the 9 May unrest. Earlier convictions in three other cases had already led to the disqualification of Shibli Faraz from the Senate and Umar Ayub from the National Assembly.
