WEBDESK: Disney’s Zootopia 2 has impressed everyone by maintaining its impressive box office run over the past weekend. It has reclaimed the No.1 position in North America.
In over three days the sequel earned an estimated $26 million. The sequel is showing strong staying power. It is also not facing much competition currently. However, the holiday window is approaching and titles like The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants and Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released.
Zootopia 2’s North American total now stands at $259 million, after three weekends. Zootopia has crossed majority of the recently released animated releases at the same point after their release.
Globally, the Byron Howard and Jared Bush helmed sequel remains the only dominant force in theaters. The worldwide box office of the fil has surpassed $1.13 billion, meaning it has already crossed the original Zootopia. The sequel has also cemented itself as one of the highest grossing animated films of all time. It currently stands at 9th place. It has plenty more room to grow.
Interestingly, international markets make up for nearly $880 million of the film’s global total. China has been the most important territory for this film. Zootopia 2 has become one of the most successful Hollywood imports to China in recent years. It has made over $500 million.
Zootopia is also the second Hollywood movie to hit the 1 billion dollar mark this year. The first film was the live-action remake of Lilo and Stitch also a Disney movie.
Chief Creative Officer at Disney said in a statement on Friday “This milestone means the world to us, because more than anything, it means audiences are coming to theaters for a shared experience of watching this movie on the big screen, everyone together, from all walks of life around the world — and that is a Zootopia dream come true,”.
