Chaman phatak blast

Due to the timely action and strict vigilance of security agencies in Quetta, the Jaffar Express narrowly escaped a major tragedy. According to police officials, miscreants and suspected terrorists intended to target the train near Quetta’s Chaman Phatak, but failed in their malicious plans.

Police stated that strict security arrangements around the railway station and the alertness of the institutions prevented the terrorists from directly targeting the train. Authorities are currently determining the nature of the explosion, including whether it was a suicide attack or an explosive device had been planted.

The explosion occurred near the Jaffar Express, severely damaging one of the train’s bogies and causing it to catch fire. At least 10 people were injured in the blast and were immediately shifted to hospitals.

According to police, the train suffered partial damage, while four nearby vehicles were also badly affected. Rescue teams and law enforcement agencies rushed to the site immediately after the incident and cordoned off the area.

Meanwhile, an emergency has been declared in government hospitals to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured. Due to security concerns, the Jaffar Express traveling from Quetta to Peshawar has been temporarily suspended, while further investigations into the incident are underway.

The explosion near Chaman Phatak on Sunday morning was so powerful that its sound echoed across distant areas, spreading fear and panic throughout the locality and forcing residents and shopkeepers to rush out of their homes and stores.

As soon as the incident was reported, security forces, a heavy police contingent, and rescue teams, including ambulances, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Security sources said investigators are determining the exact nature of the blast — whether it was an act of terrorism, a planted bomb, or a suicide explosion. Fire brigade teams were also called in immediately to deal with any possible emergency situation and control the fire.

Police and security forces sealed all routes around Chaman Phatak and cordoned off the area while the process of collecting evidence got underway. Rescue agencies remain on high alert.

Quetta’s Security Situation and Sensitive Trade Routes

Chaman Phatak and its surrounding area in Quetta hold immense geographical and commercial importance. It is the key railway and road link connecting Quetta with the border city of Chaman and onward to the Afghan border. Thousands of commercial vehicles, freight carriers, and passengers travel through this highway and railway line daily.

Balochistan has long been facing security challenges created by external elements and banned militant organizations, with repeated attempts to target law enforcement agencies, security forces’ vehicles, and public places.

In the past, railway tracks and nearby crossings have also been targeted in explosions aimed at crippling the province’s infrastructure and communication system. Against this backdrop, an explosion at a sensitive location like Chaman Phatak is an extremely alarming signal for law enforcement agencies.

Explosion and Security Challenges

If the blast was intended to damage security forces or the railway line, its objective was clearly to disrupt connectivity between Quetta and Chaman — a route considered the backbone of Pak-Afghan trade and the movement of security forces.

Swift Response by Security Agencies

The arrival of police, security forces, and fire brigade personnel at the scene within minutes, followed by the sealing of the area, demonstrates that Quetta’s administration remains on high alert. This rapid action is extremely helpful in minimizing the risk of any possible secondary explosion or follow-up attack.
