Web desk: The Sindh government has announced two public holidays on September 5 and 6 in connection with Eid Milad un Nabi (PBUH). A notification confirmed that all government offices and educational institutions across the province will remain closed on these dates.
Muslims across the world observe Eid Milad un Nabi (PBUH) on the 12th of Rabi ul Awal, which is the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The day is marked with rallies, gatherings and seminars that reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Federal government announces holiday on Eid Milad un Nabi
In Pakistan, the federal government has already declared 6 September a public holiday on this occasion. Meanwhile, the Sindh government has gone a step further by announcing two holidays on 5 and 6 September.
A notification confirmed that all educational institutions and government offices in the province will remain closed on both days.
The announcement comes after the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, confirmed last week that the Rabi ul Awal moon had not been sighted.
Authorities in Karachi have also rolled out security and traffic measures.
The city’s traffic police said that heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the main roads on 11 and 12 Rabi ul Awal, given the large processions planned in different parts of the metropolis.
The department explained that the move is aimed at public safety and to keep routes clear during religious gatherings.
