ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that training Pakistan’s youth in emerging fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and information technology (IT) is crucial for the country’s progress and economic growth.
Addressing the launch ceremony of the “Inspire Initiative” under the Ministry of IT in Islamabad, the Prime Minister formally inaugurated the National Semiconductor Programme, describing it as a landmark step toward a brighter future for Pakistan and its young generation.
He said that sectors like semiconductors, AI, and IT are shaping the global economy, and it has become inevitable to equip Pakistani youth with modern skills to remain competitive. Calling the programme a “historic milestone,” the Prime Minister noted that a global narrative battle is underway in the semiconductor domain, and Pakistan, blessed with abundant resources, must use them wisely through effective leadership and vision.
Shehbaz Sharif announced that Rs 4.5 billion have been allocated for the project under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), assuring that additional resources will also be provided to ensure its success. He added that the initiative will not only promote technology but also create opportunities in employment, education, freelancing, e-commerce, and software development—key drivers of Pakistan’s digital economy.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the country’s youth are its most valuable asset and that national development is impossible without equipping them with advanced digital skills. He also highlighted the government’s ongoing digital reforms, including the digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the promotion of a cashless economy, and the introduction of digital wallets.
Shehbaz Sharif revealed that during Ramadan, Rs 20 billion were directly disbursed to deserving families through digital wallets—a first-of-its-kind initiative in Pakistan’s history. He stressed that nations mastering semiconductors and artificial intelligence will lead the world in the future, and Pakistan must not be left behind in this race.
