Pakistan Test team head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has said that the national Test team’s training camp will begin in Islamabad tomorrow. He said he has spoken to Test captain Babar Azam and hopes he will lead the team well.
Addressing the introductory ceremony of the Association Sports Media Alliance (AASMAN) at the Karachi Press Club, Sarfaraz said the purpose of the training camp is to improve fitness standards.
He said a camp had been held earlier where some fitness-related issues were identified. Some of those issues have been resolved, while the remaining ones will be addressed in the camp starting tomorrow.
Sarfaraz said he has spoken to captain Babar Azam and expects him to lead the team effectively. He added that he is hopeful Babar’s captaincy will bring positive results.
The head coach said the establishment of the Sports Media Alliance is a welcome initiative. He remarked that there is a significant difference between journalism in the past and journalism today. Earlier, journalists used to attend matches, observe performances, and then express their opinions. Now, opinions are often formed by watching social media, and players’ personal issues are discussed.
He said the Association Sports Media Alliance will work for sports journalists. The experience of senior journalists will help improve sports journalism, and good journalism will encourage young players to pursue sports without hesitation.
Sarfaraz also recalled that when he played first-class cricket, he used to get photocopies of news reports about himself and ride his motorcycle to newspaper offices on I.I. Chundrigar Road to submit them.
He also said that the formation of the Association of Sports Alliance (AASMAN) is a positive step.
