Modi’s “Shining India” narrative comes to an end as RSS faces intense global pressure, launches lobbying campaign to avoid sanctions
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has come under severe international pressure over allegations of anti-minority activities, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Shining India” narrative is reportedly facing growing criticism.
According to Reuters, RSS has been accused of promoting Hindutva ideology and violence against minorities. The organization has previously faced restrictions and criticism due to alleged extremist tendencies, while the rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government allegedly gave momentum to RSS-linked politics. The construction of the Ram Temple and the revocation of Kashmir’s special status have been described as major achievements of the RSS agenda.
The report further stated that the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom recommended sanctions against RSS, linking the group to violence and intolerance against minorities. The recommendations reportedly include freezing RSS assets and imposing travel bans on its members entering the United States.
To counter mounting pressure, RSS has allegedly launched an international lobbying campaign, with its leaders becoming active in the United States, Britain, and Germany. RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale also briefed the media in New Delhi.
According to the news agency, RSS leaders are attempting to remove the image of religious extremism associated with the Modi government. Founded in 1925, RSS has also long faced allegations regarding links to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
Political analysts say the Modi government is facing increasing global scrutiny over its hardline ideological stance. They argue that Modi’s association with RSS has damaged India’s “Shining India” narrative, while hatred and violence against minorities have become a significant obstacle in India’s relations with Europe.
