DARFUR: Fighters of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) stormed a hospital and brutally killed around 460 people, including patients and medical staff in Sudan’s Darfur region.
According to the United Nations, the RSF carried out the massacre after seizing control of North Darfur’s provincial capital. Hundreds of civilians, including those receiving medical treatment, were slaughtered inside the hospital.
U.S. media reports said RSF militants also attacked homes, subjecting residents to severe violence. More than 1,700 people have reportedly been victims of ethnic killings in Al-Fashir over the past three days.
The ongoing conflict between the RSF and Sudan’s army, now in its second year, has already claimed about 40,000 lives. Over 14 million people have been displaced, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
After RSF forces captured Al-Fashir, reports emerged of mass killings, sexual violence, and other atrocities committed on ethnic grounds. Nearly 177,000 civilians are trapped in the city, unable to reach safe areas. Thousands of unarmed residents were targeted and killed solely because of their ethnicity.
Eyewitnesses revealed horrific details, including civilians being burned alive and others forced to dig their own graves before being executed. Homes were attacked, women were assaulted, and many were killed on the spot.
Global agencies estimate that about 2,000 people were killed within hours. The Doctors’ Union reported that fleeing civilians were also attacked and many were burned inside their vehicles while attempting to escape.
In just two days, over 36,000 people fled Al-Fashir, while another 28,000 sought refuge in other parts of North Darfur. The most shocking incident occurred at the Saudi Hospital in Al-Fashir, where RSF fighters shot dead more than 450 injured and sick individuals. Over 1,200 elderly people, patients, and healthcare workers were also killed in various medical centers.
The Doctors’ Union condemned the situation as genocide and crimes against humanity, urging the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate action to protect the people of Sudan.
