Web desk: A jailed Indian spiritual guru convicted of rape and murder has walked out of prison once again. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has received parole for the fifteenth time despite serving a life sentence.
Authorities jailed Singh in 2017 after a court convicted him of raping two women followers. A separate court later found him guilty of murdering journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati who exposed abuse inside Singh’s sect Dera Sacha Sauda. Singh has now spent more than four hundred days outside prison.
Singh projects himself as a spiritual leader and music icon. He continues to release songs and preach moral values to millions of followers through social media. His latest release came soon after he left prison in January under a Haryana law that grants parole for good behavior.
Critics say his repeated releases expose deep flaws in India’s justice system. They argue that political influence and religious clout protect powerful godmen while victims wait for justice. Many believe the law bends when faith and votes come into play.
Families of the victims have expressed anger and pain. Anshul Chhatrapati whose father Singh ordered killed says the system has failed those who spoke the truth. He believes repeated paroles send a dangerous message that power can outweigh justice in India.
