Pakistan’s former captain and wicket-keeper Rashid Latif has outlined areas where Pakistan cricket team must improve before facing India. He noted that the teams have not played a bilateral series in a decade, so contests are limited to ICC and ACC events.
In the past ten years they have met fifteen times. India have won twelve. Latif said the numbers reflect habits and mindset more than talent.
Latif flags emotions and strategy as major hurdles
Latif said Pakistan’s biggest weakness against India is losing emotional control at key moments. He added that impatience leads to poor choices and that plans often change too quickly.
According to him the team tries to do everything at once and the game slips away. He praised India for reading conditions and the pitch well and then closing out wins with discipline.
He also said Pakistan have carried pressure for thirty years and India have learned how to use that to their advantage. The message was simple. Keep calm. Stick to a plan. Play with full focus from ball one.
Focus on conditions and recent form can swing momentum
Latif also pointed to reasons for optimism. He said India have played less T20 cricket lately, while Pakistan have recent matches in tough conditions.
That experience can help with selection, matchups, and pacing the chase or the set. Pakistan enter this phase with a strong reminder of their ceiling.
Additionally, in the T20 Asia Cup opener match for Pakistan, they beat Oman by 93 runs. The next chapter arrives soon. Pakistan and India meet in Dubai on Sunday, September 14.
Latif believes clarity, patience, and strategic play can turn a fierce rivalry into a controlled performance and a timely win.
