Web Desk: Following a drop in diesel prices the Punjab government has formed monitoring teams in all districts to ensure a reduction in public transport fares. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Yasin has said there would be zero tolerance for transporters charging excessive fares and warned that violators would face strict action.

Mr. Bilal Yasin engaged the officials to issue updated fare lists in line with current petroleum prices and instructed Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) to submit reports on fare reductions. The minister also said that any extra amount charged from passengers be refunded immediately, stressing that the direct benefit of lower fuel prices must reach the public.

On December 15, 2025 the government had declared a reduction in diesel prices with a notable cut of Rs14 and the price of petrol remains unaffected at Rs263 and 45 paisas per litre. The fresh prices, as confirmed by an official notification, will come into effect in the second half of December 2025.

The reduction in diesel prices was expected to have a good impact on the transportation sector, where diesel is widely used. Analysts say that this price cut could potentially lower transportation costs, offering some relief to both consumers and businesses reliant on logistics and transport services.

While the diesel price has seen a reduction, petrol prices remain unchanging at the same rate of 263 rupees and 45 paisas per litre. The finding to keep petrol prices unchanged is consistent with global trends, where fluctuations in crude oil prices have influenced local pricing strategies.

The reviewed fuel prices will officially take effect in the second half of December 2025, allowing citizens and businesses time to adjust to the changes. As the new pricing edifice rolls out, it is expected to influence both consumer spending and overall economic activity in the country.
