Web desk: A new franchise in the Pakistan Super League has officially revealed its identity ahead of PSL 11. The Rawalpindi based team will compete under the name Pindiz, ending weeks of speculation about the eighth side in the expanded tournament.
The franchise announced the name through a 25 second teaser video on social media. The clip showcased sweeping aerial views of Rawalpindi along with fast paced city visuals. Scattered letters appeared on screen before finally forming the team name. The franchise later confirmed the announcement on X formerly known as Twitter.
The teaser video carried strong branding messages. Phrases like “We are bold” and “We are changing the game” highlighted the team’s confident tone.
In its caption the franchise declared that Team Rawalpindi’s official name had arrived. It described itself as bold challenging and ready to change the game. The video ended with the words “To be continued” and confirmed that the official logo will be revealed next.
Owner Ahsan Tahir called the name simple clean and powerful. He explained that the one word identity reflects the city’s popular nickname Pindi and creates a modern brand image.
The announcement triggered strong reactions online. Many supporters praised the short and energetic name. Others criticized it and labeled it one of the weaker names in league history.
The debate quickly spread across social platforms where users shared jokes memes and mixed opinions about the branding. Tahir responded by encouraging fans to support the team. He rejected claims of coordinated negativity and promoted hashtags such as PindiBoy to strengthen local backing.
Walee Technologies secured the Rawalpindi franchise for Rs2.45 billion during the PSL auction held at the Expo Centre Lahore earlier this month. The acquisition followed restructuring of the former Multan Sultans slot in the league framework.
Despite the naming debate Pindiz enters PSL 11 with strong expectations. The team is likely to retain key players including captain Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowler Naseem Shah.
PSL 11 will run from March 26 to May 3 2026. With the name now official focus will shift to the team logo kit design and overall brand identity as the new franchise prepares for its debut season.
