After US President Donald Trump claimed that a major agreement with Iran was largely finalized, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif indicated that Pakistan could soon host the next round of negotiations.
In a statement posted on X, Shehbaz Sharif said, “I congratulate President Donald Trump on his extraordinary efforts for peace and on holding a very useful and productive telephone call today with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, and Pakistan.”
Shehbaz Sharif added that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir represented Pakistan during the call, and praised his tireless efforts throughout the process. He said the discussion provided a useful opportunity to exchange views on the current regional situation and ways to advance ongoing peace efforts for lasting stability in the region.
The prime minister said Pakistan would continue its sincere efforts for peace and expressed hope that the next round of negotiations would be hosted very soon.
It is worth noting that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to Tehran is seen as a major breakthrough in paving way for the next round of US-Iran peace talks where he held meaningful discussions with top leadership of Iran. Soon after the conclusion of his talks, President Donald Trump and US secretary of States Marco Robio expressed hope for final settlement of the conflict and thanked Pakistani leadership for their efforts.
