‘I stopped 7 wars, including Pakistan-India,’ says President Trump
US President Donald Trump opened his address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly by joking about a technical glitch with the teleprompter.
“I can only say whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble,” Trump remarked, drawing laughter from the hall.
As the host nation, the United States is traditionally the second member state to speak. With the teleprompter down, Trump continued his speech from a paper copy.
“Six years have passed since I last stood in this grand hall and addressed a world that was prosperous and at peace in my first term,” he said, recalling his first presidency between 2017 and 2021.
“Since that day, the guns of war have shattered the peace I forged on two continents, an era of calm and stability gave way to one of the great crises of our time, and here in the United States, four years of weakness, lawlessness and radicalism under the last administration delivered our nation into a repeated set of disasters,” Trump continued.
Later in his remarks, Trump declared: “I stopped 7 wars, including Pakistan-India.”
US President Donald Trump has said that he played a key role in stopping seven wars, including the conflict between Pakistan and India, thereby contributing to global peace.
He stated that the United States would continue its efforts to promote peace worldwide.
Trump added that the United Nations had no role in brokering ceasefires, claiming instead that it was his efforts that ended the conflict between Iran and Israel.
Calling this period a “golden era” for America, he said the country’s economy was strong and its borders secure.
He stressed that all nations must work together to protect human lives. Trump further remarked that, based on these achievements, he deserves to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
‘I visited the Middle East. I value relations with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Dubai and other countries, and we signed historic trade agreements with them,’ said Donald Trump.
He added that “weapons and wars have destroyed global peace” and stressed that the United States would play its role in establishing peace worldwide. Trump made these remarks in his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Guterres begins address at UNGA
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has opened his address, emphasising unity at a time when the United Nations’ global role is under growing scrutiny.
He said, “Eighty years ago, in a world scorched by war, leaders made a choice, cooperation over chaos, law over lawlessness, peace over conflict, and that choice gave birth to the United Nations, not as a dream for perfection, but as a practical strategy for survival of humanity.”
He continued, “Eighty years on, we confront again the question our founders faced, only more urgent, more intertwined, more unforgiving.”
Guterres outlined themes that have shaped his tenure, noting attempts to undermine the organisation’s mission. His remarks come as the Trump administration once again reduces US funding to the UN, its largest financial contributor.
The address also follows renewed criticism of the Security Council, where Washington has regularly vetoed resolutions on Gaza and Moscow has done the same on Ukraine.
“What kind of world do we choose to build together, excellencies? We have our work cut out for us as our ability to carry out that work is being cut from us,” Guterres told delegates.
He warned, “We have entered into an age of reckless disruption and relentless human suffering. Look around, the principles of the United Nations that you have established are under siege. Listen, the pillars of peace and progress are buckling under the weight of impunity, inequality and indifference.”
The secretary-general closed with a stark challenge, “Sovereign nations invaded, hunger weaponised, truth silenced, rising smoke from bombed off cities, rising anger in fractured societies, rising seas, swelling coastlines, each one a warning, each one a question, what kind of world will we choose?”

Prime Minister Shehbaz reaches United States
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reached the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.
He travelled to the US following the conclusion of his visit to the United Kingdom. During the trip, the prime minister is set to deliver an important speech at the UN General Assembly.
Alongside taking part in the high-level session, PM Shehbaz is also scheduled to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump, as well as other Muslim leaders.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will head Pakistan’s delegation at the high-level segment of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.
He will be joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, along with other ministers and senior officials.
