WEBDESK: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended its flights to Canada from 13 to 27 September 2025. The airline said the step was necessary for the maintenance of its Boeing 777 aircraft.
A PIA spokesperson explained that two long-haul Boeing 777s are undergoing a three-week technical inspection. The process includes replacing major components, a requirement every ten years. PIA stressed that the decision was made to ensure passenger safety and meet international aviation standards.
The suspension affects flights from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to Toronto. Many passengers have faced disruption and delays. Some travellers said they were forced to reschedule important plans. For example, the Karachi–Toronto flight of 16 September has been moved to 7 October.
One passenger expressed concern that the sudden cancellation had caused serious delays in his work commitments.
PIA admitted that the suspension was abrupt but said it had no choice. The airline is also facing pressure from limited aircraft availability, which is affecting both international and domestic schedules.
Officials said the airline wants its planes ready for the high travel demand expected in the coming months.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that PIA will resume flights to the United Kingdom in September 2025. He said flights from Pakistan to Manchester will operate three to four times a week, adding that the public has shown strong interest in direct flights to the UK.
