Web Desk: Pakistani freelancers are playing an increasingly prominent role in global digital markets, driving a sharp rise in foreign exchange earnings as the country’s IT-enabled workforce expands.

By the third quarter of the current fiscal year, freelancers in Pakistan earned up to 856 million dollars, marking a 50 percent increase compared with the same period last year. Earnings rose by 289 million dollars from 567 million dollars recorded in the third quarter of the previous financial year.

The figures highlight the rapid expansion of Pakistan’s digital services sector, particularly in remote work and online contracting platforms.

According to Ibrahim Amin, chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association, thousands of new freelancers are entering the market each month. He attributed the growth to expanding access to both government and private training initiatives that are helping individuals develop digital skills.

He said institutions including the Ministry of IT, the Pakistan Software Export Board, and the Special Investment Facilitation Council are helping create a more supportive environment for freelancers.

Zohaib Khan, former chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association, said the country’s information technology sector has expanded significantly over the past three years. He linked this progress to policy coordination following the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council.

He added that recent measures introduced by the State Bank have eased conditions for IT exporters, freelancers, and startups, improving financial access and operational efficiency.

Industry stakeholders say the IT sector is continuing on a path of steady growth, supported by reforms and policy consistency under the Special Investment Facilitation Council. They argue that sustained institutional support has been a key factor in strengthening Pakistan’s position in the global digital economy.
