Pakistan, Turkey reaffirm defence cooperation

Web desk: General Ziya Cemal Kadioglu, Commander of the Turkish Air Force, paid an official visit to Pakistan on September 4, 2025, and met with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to a statement issued by the ISPR.

According to ISPR, the two commanders held in-depth discussions on professional matters, focusing particularly on the changing regional and global strategic environment.

They also spoke about shared priorities and stressed the importance of working together to promote peace and stability.

Pakistan, Turkey on defence cooperation

Both parties reaffirmed their desire to enhance the long-established strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkey by signing an agreement to enhance defence and security cooperation.

General Kadioglu commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces, their success, their sacrifices in the war against terrorism, and their continuing participation in ensuring the peace and stability of the region.

On his arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, the visiting commander was presented with a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent.

Previously, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI, NI (M), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), paid an official visit to Qatar for the second round of the Higher Military Cooperation Committee (HMCC) meeting. There he met His Excellency Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, along with Lt General (Pilot) Jassim Mohammad Ahmed Al-Mannai, Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces.

During the visit, both sides reviewed the evolving regional security situation and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to promoting peace and stability at the regional and global levels.

The Chairman of the JCSC also underlined the historic brotherly ties between Pakistan and Qatar, while discussing prospects for enhancing defence and security cooperation under the framework of the Higher Military Cooperation Committee.
