Web desk: The meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers has begun in Jeddah, with a strong focus on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid. Pakistan is being represented at the session by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Addressing the meeting, the Saudi Foreign Minister said that a ceasefire in Gaza is essential and humanitarian assistance must reach those in need. He rejected the so-called “Greater Israel” plan. Stressing that the establishment of Jewish settlements in the West Bank is unacceptable and that the creation of an independent Palestinian state is urgent.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister noted that Israeli attacks are continuing and warned that any plan to occupy Gaza cannot be accepted. He affirmed his country’s support for the Palestinian people and their fundamental rights, expressing hope for a two-state solution. He also stated that the famine-like situation in Gaza amounts to a crime against humanity.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in his remarks, said that the “Greater Israel” plan poses a grave threat to regional peace. And highlighted the need to ensure safe delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
He stressed that forced displacement and illegal occupation must end. Adding that Pakistan has always supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states.
Dar further said that the massacre of innocent Palestinians in Gaza continues. While attacks on hospitals, schools and refugee camps constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law.
During the summit, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of key member states.
The session is being attended by OIC foreign ministers and senior officials, where discussions are underway on Israeli aggression in Palestine. The plan for full military control of Gaza, and violations of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, to develop a joint strategy.
