Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan and Bahrain could increase their bilateral trade from $550 million to $1 billion in the next three years.

He shared this view during his meeting with Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in Manama.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Bahrain on winning a two-year term (2026–2027) as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He said Pakistan was ready to work closely with Bahrain during its tenure.

The prime minister praised Bahrain for supporting the more than 150,000 Pakistanis living there and said Pakistan was ready to send more skilled workers. He also welcomed stronger cooperation in higher education, technical training, and digital governance, especially under the King Hamad University initiative. He thanked Bahrain for helping release and repatriate Pakistani nationals.

The two sides also discussed defence and security ties and agreed to boost cooperation in training, cybersecurity, defence production, and information sharing.

Both leaders talked about the situation in Gaza. They agreed that peace and stability were urgently needed for the people of Gaza, who have suffered for many years.

The meeting ended with confidence that the talks would lead to real results and further strengthen Pakistan–Bahrain relations in strategic, economic, security, and people-to-people areas.

Meanwhile, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and awarded him the Order of Bahrain (First Class), the country’s highest honour for heads of state and government.

In a tweet, PM Shehbaz Sharif said, “By the boundless grace and mercy of Allah, in the by-elections, the public has expressed its trust in the Pakistan Muslim League-N’s commitment to development, stability, and public welfare, for which we are grateful to the people.”

He added that these are the results “of the timeless leadership of Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the hard work of Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the province’s progress and prosperity. In the remaining by-election constituencies, InshaAllah, the public’s decision will also favour the League, because the people of Pakistan seek development, prosperity, and peace, rather than lies and chaos.”
