Web desk: Pakistan is preparing to launch its first nationwide cervical cancer vaccination drive, with the campaign set to run from September 15 to 27 in selected areas, including Punjab, Sindh, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad, according to sources.
Health officials said that the vaccination effort will focus on schoolgirls aged 9 to 14 years, with enrolments from both government and private schools.
Registration for eligible girls has already started. Each child will receive a single dose of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which health experts say can play a vital role in lowering the risk of cervical cancer.
To reach a large number of people, the vaccine will be administered in schools, community centres, mobile teams and fixed health facilities.
Special messages of awareness will also be created for the parents, giving information about the safety of the HPV vaccine and its importance.
Authorities described the campaign as a landmark step for Pakistan’s public health sector, stressing that it offers long-term protection against a disease that is preventable but often fatal if not treated.
Officials expressed hope that the initiative will safeguard future generations of women by building early protection against cervical cancer.
Importance of the nationwide cervical cancer vaccination drive
This vaccination program is significant since it will protect young girls prior to them being subjected to the virus that causes cervical cancer. The HPV vaccine is safe and effective, and it helps prevent most cases of this deadly, yet preventable disease.
Offering it at the appropriate age ensures that protection is extended over many years, saving health hazards that women may suffer.
The campaign also shows a strong step forward for Pakistan’s public health system. The government is assessing many children at the same time, beginning with school girls.
It allows a family to defend its daughters against a potentially severe disease, and it raises awareness with regard to early disease prevention. This initiative can save lives and lessen the burden of cancer in the nation.
