NADRA launches online birth, death registration service

WEBDESK: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has made it easier for people to register births and deaths by launching a new online service. Citizens will no longer have to visit union councils for these registrations.

The service, part of the government’s Digital Pakistan initiative, can be accessed through the Pak ID mobile application. Once a citizen submits the required information online, it is sent directly to the relevant union council for processing.

Initially, the facility is available in three districts: Chakwal with 71 union councils, Jhelum with 44 union councils, and Nankana Sahib with 65 union councils. NADRA plans to expand the service to the rest of the country in phases.

In addition to birth and death registrations, NADRA also provides several ID card services online via its Pak Identity portal, including renewals, reprints, and updates. However, those applying for their first Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) must still visit a NADRA centre in person to complete registration. This helps in making all the citizens to be formally registered and helped to participate in the affairs of the nation.

For CNICs, NADRA offers three types of service depending on how quickly the card is needed. The Executive service delivers the card within seven days for a fee of Rs 2,500. The Urgent service takes about 15 days and costs Rs 1,500, while the Normal service takes around 30 days and costs Rs 750.
