NAB summons Malik Riaz’s family in money laundering inquiry; hearing on Aug 26

Web desk: NAB has launched an investigation against Malik Riaz and his family on charges of large-scale money laundering.

The bureau has summoned Malik Riaz’s son, Ali Riaz, along with four others, on August 26. Summons notices have also been issued to Khalil ur Rehman, Muhammad Ishaq, and Aamir Rasheed Awan.

According to NAB, all the accused have been directed to appear at the NAB Rawalpindi office at 10AM on August 26.

The proceedings are being carried out under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010.

Govt auctions Malik Riaz’s son’s land in Al-Qadir Trust case

Previously, the federal government had begun auctioning properties linked to absconders in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, with a large piece of land owned by Ali Riaz Malik, son of property magnate Malik Riaz, sold off.

Officials confirmed that Ali Riaz’s agricultural land in Mohra Noor, measuring 405 kanals and three marlas, was auctioned at a rate of Rs3.42 million per kanal.

The sale took place at the Patwar office in Bhara Kahu and was overseen by Assistant Commissioner Secretariat Uzair Ali, along with a government-appointed committee.

Unlike the case of another absconder, Farhat Shehzadi, better known as Farah Gogi, whose land in the same revenue estate of Mohra Noor, Bani Gala, failed to draw any offers, Ali Riaz’s land did manage to attract bidders.

However, officials have yet to disclose who the successful buyer was. Despite repeated queries, the name of the purchaser remains unclear.

The land auction is one part of a broader recovery drive by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). As part of this campaign, several properties linked to Malik Riaz and Bahria Town have also been put under the hammer.

Prior to that, six commercial properties were offered for sale; three of them found buyers. Among those, Rubaish Marquee went for Rs508 million.

While Corporate Office-I and Corporate Office-II received conditional offers of Rs876 million and Rs881.5 million. Other sites in Islamabad and Rawalpindi failed to secure bids.

Authorities say these sales are aimed at recovering the huge unpaid sums tied to the Al-Qadir Trust case, in which Malik Riaz and his family remain central figures.
