Web Desk: An unknown projectile struck a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of Oman on Thursday, sparking fresh security concerns in the strategic waterway.
The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the incident occurred approximately 7.5 nautical miles southeast of Oman.
Following the strike, the ship’s captain confirmed that the vessel sustained no casualties and reported no immediate environmental damage.
Shortly after the incident, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a critical statement regarding a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Revolutionary Guards warned commercial vessels to exclusively utilize the specific Hormuz routes that Tehran has approved.
This aggressive directive immediately reopened a dangerous point of friction between the United States and Iran, complicating delicate negotiations regarding the future of the strategic maritime chokepoint.
