Egyptian professional footballer, Mohamed Salah has questioned Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) over its silence after the death of Palestinian player.

In a post on X, UEFA said, “Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the ‘Palestinian Pelé’. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.”

Later, Mohamed Salah replied to the post, saying: “Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?” He asked this important question as UEFA did not mention Israel.

Following this post, he received a lot of praise from his fans around the world who are strongly protesting against Israel.

How did Suleiman al-Obeid die?

It is pertinent to mention that Suleiman al-Obeid consistently voiced sympathy for those in Gaza throughout the conflict. Two years ago, he donated to the Egyptian Red Cross to help fund its relief efforts in the region.

During his career, he scored more than 100 goals, which make him one of the brightest stars of Palestinian football.

His talent on the pitch earned him the nickname of “the Palestinian Pelé”.

Obeid is survived by his wife and five children.

According to Palestinian Football Association, “The number of footballers killed or who died from starvation has reached 421, including 103 children.”

Israel also hit PFA’s headquarters in Gaza.

More than 1,300 Palestinians are reported to have been killed in the vicinity of aid distribution points managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation since the US- and Israeli-backed logistic group’s launch in late May.
