FAISLABAD: Former chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Sahibzada Hamid Raza has been produced before the Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) of Faisalabad.
He was arrested near Islamabad late night when he was on way to Faislamabad from Peashar. Later, he was was shifted to Civil Lines Police Station in Faisalabad.
Hamid Raza, who is staunch supporter of founder Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan, was fugitive after conviction in May 9 case. He was earlier sentenced to 10 years in prison by the court. Authorities have confirmed that Raza’s arrest and transfer are linked to his conviction in the abovementioned case.
Hamid Raza was sentenced on July 31 along with PTI leaders including Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Zartaj Gul.
It is pertinent to mention that the ATC Faisalabad, on July 31 this year, announced verdicts in three cases pertaining to the May 9 riots, wherein dozens of PTI leaders and workers were sentenced to 10-year imprisonment. The other leaders sentenced included Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Zartaj Gul Wazir.
