In a new major development in the world of cricket. World Famous Legendary Australian allrounder Glen Maxwell has decided not to take part in IPL 2026. Similar decisions have been taken by Moeen Ali and Faf du Plessis. The auction is set to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16. As per ESPNCricinfo Maxwell has not registered to be on the list of players participating.
Glen Maxwell has been a major player in IPL. He played a pivotal role for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, due to one poor season the franchise released him.
Here is what Glenn Maxwell said in his Instagram post
“After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me. The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched. The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever. Thank you for all your support over the years, hopefully see you soon. Cheers Maxi”
Interestingly two other players Moeen Ali and Faf du Plessis have taken the same decisions. Both of them are opting form PSL over IPL. Faf du Plessis wanted something fresh and he wanted a new challenge in his own words “ This year I want a fresh challenge. The PSL feels right. New places, new faces, and that incredible Pakistani warmth—I’m genuinely excited”.
Pakistan will not be new territory for him as he has played in PSL before. Between 2019 to 2021 he has played six PSL games for Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.
Similarly, to Faf, Moeen Ali also chose to play in PSL rather than IPL.
Both these decisions show the growing popularity of PSL as a world famous league.
