Citizens need to take precautionary measures due to the ongoing severe heatwave across the country, experts say
Various areas of Punjab, including Lahore, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, are in the grip of intense heat, while the Meteorological Department has also forecast dust storms and light rain in some regions.
According to climate experts, citizens need to adopt precautionary measures due to the ongoing severe heatwave across the country, as extreme heat can directly affect human health.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain accompanied by dust-laden winds in Lahore today, which may slightly reduce the intensity of the heat. The minimum temperature recorded in Lahore today was 28 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 42 degrees Celsius.
It should be noted that the PDMA had already issued an alert regarding the risk of a heatwave during the Eid holidays.
Experts say people should avoid unnecessary outings during extreme heat, and if they must go outside, they should keep their heads covered and increase water and beverage intake to avoid dehydration.
According to medical experts, prolonged exposure to sunlight during a heatwave increases the risk of heatstroke.
The Meteorological Department stated that the current system of dust storms and light rain will leave Pakistan today, after which dry and hot weather conditions will return across Punjab, including Lahore.
Meanwhile, strong dusty winds are also blowing in Peshawar, and hot and dry weather has been forecast. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in Peshawar may rise to 43 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures in southern districts could reach 45 degrees Celsius.
Experts say that due to climate change, the intensity of heat and the duration of heatwaves have increased in recent years, requiring greater caution from citizens. Authorities have advised people to take special care of children, the elderly, and sick individuals, and to avoid unnecessary travel during daytime hours.
