New KP govt in action, housing department dismiss ghost employees

Web Desk: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Housing Department has ordered the dismissal of work-charged employees suspected of being fictitious staff after concerns emerged that more than Rs10 million was being paid out in monthly salaries without verifiable recruitment records.

The action follows complaints about alleged irregularities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority, where neither the administration nor finance section could reportedly produce authenticated records of the employees’ recruitment, appointment letters or approval from the competent authority.

Housing Adviser Asif Rafiq Afridi, a member of the provincial advisory council, and newly appointed Housing Secretary Tahir Orakzai ordered the immediate dismissal of all work-charged employees, according to the information provided.

They also decided to launch an inquiry to establish how the alleged irregularities occurred and determine responsibility.

The absence of verifiable records prompted the department to take immediate action while preparing to investigate the matter further.

The action comes amid broader claims of administrative accountability following the imposition of emergency rule and the governor-led provincial administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, further official details would be needed to establish whether the housing department’s action forms part of a wider anti-corruption campaign.
