Cristiano Ronaldo faces fine and suspension

Web Desk: Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for 30 days by the Portuguese Football Federation after leaving the national team camp amid a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus over his role in the side.

The federation’s disciplinary council upheld the charge against the 41-year-old forward in full on Monday and imposed a fine of 255 euros ($285.83).

However, the ruling did not clarify which matches or team activities would fall under the suspension, leaving uncertainty over when Ronaldo could return to action for Portugal.

The controversy began earlier this month when Ronaldo left Portugal’s training base in Copenhagen ahead of a Nations League match against Denmark.

The departure followed a disagreement over his position in the team after he was left on the bench as an unused substitute against Norway. Ronaldo accused Jesus of breaking his word twice regarding his role in the squad.

Jesus denied reaching any agreement with the veteran striker. Nevertheless, he left open the possibility of Ronaldo returning to the national team after Portugal secured a 2-1 victory.

The disciplinary council’s non-professional section concluded that Ronaldo had deliberately committed an offence under Article 160(1) of the federation’s disciplinary regulations.

Proceedings against the forward began on October 9, following reports about the incident two days earlier.

However, the federation did not specify whether the 30-day ban would cover international matches, training sessions or other team-related activities. It also remains unclear whether any time Ronaldo has already served under a provisional suspension will count towards the final penalty.
