KP CM Gandapur sends Rs500 million defamation notice to senior journalist Hassan Ayub

Web desk: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has sent a legal notice worth Rs500 million to senior journalist Hassan Ayub Khan in a defamation case.

The senior journalist shared the development on his social media account, saying: “Notice received, didn’t move an inch.”

The notice, issued through the Advocate-General’s office on September 4, accuses the ARY News journalist of making ‘defamatory remarks’ during a talk show, The Reporters, aired between August 25 and 29.

According to the notice, Gandapur said his reputation and political career had been harmed. It stated that the chief minister belongs to a “respectable and honourable family” and has held key positions in both provincial and federal governments.

The notice demands a written and unconditional apology from Hassan Ayub within seven days. It also asks him to post the apology on his social media account.

If he fails to comply, the senior journalist has been warned of civil and criminal proceedings as per the notification. The notice says Gandapur will file a Rs500 million damages suit and pursue action under cybercrime laws.

According to the notification shared by the journalist on his social media, a copy of the notice has also been sent to the federal and provincial information secretaries.
