Kashmir Is ‘Incomplete Part’ of Pakistan, Says Security Source

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan pursued broader regional stability and reduction of tensions between Muslim countries as part of its diplomatic engagement during recent negotiations linked to US–Iran peace efforts, say senior security sources.

In a high-level briefing to journalists, security officials said Pakistan’s objectives in the mediation and peace process were twofold: promoting peace in the region and reducing tensions among Muslim states. They said Islamabad approached the process with “sincerity and seriousness.”

According to the sources, Field Marshal Asim Munir led what they described as “patient and strategic diplomatic efforts,” which contributed to achieving outcomes without escalation. They said Pakistan “won the war without fighting it,” crediting diplomacy and restraint.

The officials expressed hope that Pakistan’s efforts would be rewarded, adding that recent developments were also supported by regional leadership, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, while Turkey and Egypt played “important supportive roles” in diplomatic coordination.

Pakistan, the sources said, has consistently supported diplomatic and security cooperation and believes in military diplomacy alongside political engagement. They stressed that Islamabad maintains independent bilateral relations with all countries and does not align its foreign policy with the interests of any single state.

“This is what independent and multi-vector diplomacy means,” one official said, adding that Pakistan’s foreign policy decisions are guided by flexibility, balance, and long-term strategic thinking.

Kashmir remains central issue

Security officials also reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding position on Kashmir, describing it as an “unfinished agenda” of the partition. They said the issue remains central to Pakistan’s national stance.

Referring to historical conflicts, the officials said the region had witnessed multiple wars and that Pakistan’s military, alongside local groups at the time, had played a role in earlier conflicts over the disputed territory.

They reiterated the slogan “Kashmir will become Pakistan,” and claimed that public sentiment in parts of the disputed region continues to reflect support for self-determination.

The officials alleged that the region remains heavily militarised and that civilian populations face ongoing instability. They further claimed that attempts to alter demographic balance or introduce legal changes would not resolve the underlying political dispute.

Pakistan, they added, believes that dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable path forward. They also said that over the past two years, engagement efforts had been made to facilitate discussions and address local concerns through diplomatic channels.

Officials claimed that recent protests in the region involved “hidden elements with broader agendas,” and said that once such elements are exposed, “they will be dealt with accordingly.”

India has previously rejected similar allegations and maintains that all administrative measures in the region are internal matters.
