Web Desk: A local political alliance in Jamrud has announced a peaceful protest against alleged corruption in development projects, substandard construction work and poor performance of government departments, saying the move aims to highlight public grievances rather than target any political party or individual.
The Jamrud Political Alliance made the announcement during a press conference at the Jamrud Press Club, where leaders including Maulana Saeed, Zarif Khan, Siraj, Irfan and Suleman said their focus was to safeguard residents’ rights and draw attention to the region’s long-standing issues.
The alliance said it would hold a demonstration on Monday at Bab-e-Khyber in Jamrud against what it described as poor-quality development projects, alleged corruption, ineffective government services and the failure to provide basic rights to residents.
However, the leaders stressed that the protest would remain peaceful and would follow constitutional means to raise public concerns.
The alliance leaders said government departments must perform their duties with honesty, transparency and in accordance with the law.
They also urged Khyber Deputy Commissioner to strengthen monitoring of all government departments and ensure the swift resolution of public complaints.
Meanwhile, they said residents had raised concerns over the quality of several ongoing development projects in Jamrud, while many basic issues remained unresolved.
The Jamrud Political Alliance appealed to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers to avoid giving a political colour to the protest and instead support efforts aimed at resolving public issues.
The leaders said the campaign was not directed against any political party but was intended to serve the wider interests of the people of Jamrud.
The alliance claimed that videos and audio recordings related to alleged corruption and poor-quality work were circulating on social media.
Furthermore, the leaders called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister to take immediate steps to address Jamrud’s issues and review the performance of relevant government institutions, noting that the provincial government is led by his party.
They warned that if public concerns remained unresolved, the scope of the protest movement would be expanded in the future.
