Islamabad reports 18 new dengue cases in last 24 hours

Islamabad dengue

Eighteen new dengue cases were recorded in Islamabad within a day. Health officials say the preventive advisory issued last year remains valid today.

The focus is on fast detection, strict mosquito control, and clear guidance for homes, schools, and markets.

New dengue cases and current risk

Monsoon weather and standing water raise the risk of dengue spread. Aedes mosquitoes breed in small clean water pools found in buckets, plant pots, roof tanks, tyres, and construction sites.

Daytime biting is common, especially at dawn and dusk. Residents in thickly populated sectors and katcha belts should stay alert.

Fever with headache, body pain, or pain behind the eyes needs medical review.

Danger signs include persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, bleeding from gums or nose, drowsiness, and cold clammy skin. Such signs require urgent care at a designated facility.

Self-medication with aspirin or other blood thinners is unsafe in suspected dengue.

How dengue spreads in Islamabad and what to watch

Dengue is a viral disease spread by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.

The virus does not pass from person to person by touch. The mosquito becomes infectious after biting a patient and then carries the virus to others.

Most infections are mild but some progress to severe disease. However, early hydration and timely monitoring prevent complications.

Doctors rely on clinical assessment and basic tests to track warning trends. Platelet counts are considered with vital signs and not in isolation.

Families should keep an emergency kit with oral rehydration salts, thermometer, and CNIC copies for quick hospital registration.

Prevention steps for homes and city amid dengue fever crisis

  1. Drain and scrub water containers every week.
  2. Cover roof tanks and underground reservoirs.
  3. Clear gutters, coolers, and bird baths.
  4. Use repellents, bed nets, and window screens.
  5. Wear long sleeves during peak hours.
  6. Cooperate with municipal teams during indoor residual spray and fogging drives.
  7. Schools and offices should remove junk, fix leaks, and display dengue signs.
  8. Builders must fill puddles and store materials off the ground.

Community volunteers can map hotspots and report them to local control rooms. Steady action this week can break the breeding cycle and lower case numbers.
