Web Desk: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation on trade, energy and regional security, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said.
The visit is taking place at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and comes as Islamabad and Tehran seek to deepen engagement on a range of political, economic and strategic issues.
According to the Foreign Office, Pezeshkian is accompanied by a senior delegation and is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with Pakistan’s top civilian leadership.
During his stay, the Iranian president will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
The discussions would focus on bilateral relations, regional developments and other matters of mutual interest.
The Foreign Office said both sides would undertake a comprehensive review of cooperation across all sectors of the Pakistan-Iran relationship.
In particular, leaders are expected to explore ways to boost trade and economic engagement, enhance collaboration in the energy sector and strengthen coordination on border management and security.
Furthermore, discussions will address measures to increase people-to-people contacts, which both countries view as an important pillar of long-term bilateral cooperation.
Beyond bilateral matters, Pakistani and Iranian officials are expected to exchange views on regional connectivity initiatives and key international developments.
The consultations come at a time of heightened diplomatic activity across the region, with both countries seeking greater economic integration and closer coordination on issues affecting regional peace and stability.
The visit underscores the importance Islamabad and Tehran attach to maintaining regular high-level engagement and expanding cooperation in areas of shared interest.
Officials say the talks are expected to reinforce existing ties while identifying new opportunities for collaboration in economic development, security cooperation and regional diplomacy.
The meetings are scheduled to continue over the coming days, with both sides expected to review progress in bilateral relations and discuss avenues for deeper strategic partnership.
