Web Desk: Iran has decided to continue negotiations with the United States but will not accept what it describes as unnecessary or excessive demands, a senior Iranian official said, underscoring Tehran’s firm stance ahead of potential talks.
Ebrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s parliamentary national security committee, said in an interview that Tehran will act decisively to safeguard its national interests and security. He added that Iran has defined clear limits for engagement with Washington.
Moreover, Azizi said Iran’s participation in upcoming discussions in Islamabad will depend on “positive signals” from the United States. He emphasized that Iran views negotiations as a strategic arena, where outcomes must align with its broader objectives.
Azizi described talks with Washington as comparable to a battlefield, where diplomatic gains must match progress achieved elsewhere. Therefore, he said Iran will only proceed if negotiations help preserve those gains. However, he warned that talks would falter if the United States pushes a pressure-based approach or expands its demands beyond agreed limits.
Separately, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated Tehran for meaningful engagement. In a statement on social media, he said honoring commitments remains the first condition for successful negotiations.
Furthermore, Pezeshkian pointed to longstanding distrust rooted in past U.S. actions. He argued that recent signals from Washington appear inconsistent and, at times, counterproductive. According to him, such mixed messaging could undermine the process.
