Web Desk: Iran signaled that a new round of negotiations with the United States could take place in Islamabad if Washington lifts its blockade on Iranian ports, the country’s envoy to the United Nations said on Tuesday.
Iran’s permanent representative, Amir Saeed, spoke to reporters at the UN headquarters in New York. He said talks could move forward quickly once the maritime restrictions end. He also named Islamabad as a possible venue, according to Iran’s state news agency.
However, the United States struck a more cautious tone. President Donald Trump extended the current ceasefire with Iran. He said it would remain in place until Tehran presents a credible and lasting proposal to resolve the dispute. At the same time, he confirmed that the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports will continue.
The differing positions highlight a key obstacle. Tehran has signaled readiness to resume dialogue, but it links progress to lifting sanctions and restrictions. In contrast, Washington appears to use the blockade to push for broader concessions.
Meanwhile, analysts say both sides have kept diplomatic channels open. However, they warn that talks may stall without progress on core issues, especially sanctions relief.
If conditions change, Islamabad could serve as a neutral venue. It may offer both sides a path back to formal negotiations.
