⏱ 1 minute read

Web desk: Khurram Iqbal, the producer of Hum News Islamabad Bureau, has finally returned home safely. His detention by the National Cyber Crime Agency under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) had raised serious concerns among journalists and the public.

Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari stressed that Khurram Iqbal was never missing. She confirmed that his detention was fully legal under PECA, highlighting that authorities were acting within the law.

Azma Bukhari further emphasized that Khurram Iqbal is accused of producing a fake video, a serious matter that goes against the core values of journalism. She underscored that integrity and truth are non-negotiable in the media profession.

Sources reported that Khurram Iqbal was at his sister’s house in Lahore’s Journalist Colony around 1 PM when National Cyber Crime Agency officials took him into custody. His release has ended a tense period and serves as a reminder of the fine line journalists must navigate between reporting and legal compliance.

This incident has sparked a strong debate about media ethics, electronic crimes, and the protection of journalists, emphasizing the urgent need for transparency and accountability in both journalism and law enforcement.
