KARACHI: Actor Hassan Ahmed has revealed that he often faces rumours about his religious beliefs due to his marriage to a Christian woman.
In a recent interview with “Something Haute,” Hassan spoke openly about his career and personal life. He shared that for most of his career, he was offered mainly negative roles, which initially frustrated him. At times, he even turned down similar roles repeatedly. But with time, he realised that what truly matters is how well the work is performed.
He said it is wrong to assume that a role requiring only ten days of shooting has less value, noting that a true actor is someone who delivers a powerful performance even in limited screen time, something he now focuses on wholeheartedly.
The actor added that most of his dramas in which he plays negative characters become more popular, while those with positive roles often receive less attention.
Hassan also addressed the rumours circulated about his family. He said some people claim that because he married a Christian woman, he must have forgotten Islam. He clarified that he continues to practise Islam regularly and takes his children to the mosque, where they also recite the Quran.
He added that similar rumours are spread about his wife, even though she follows her own faith with sincerity.
Reflecting on their marriage, Hassan shared that during the first ten years, as they were still learning to understand each other, there were moments when they both wondered if they should separate. However, they immediately dismissed such thoughts for the sake of their children.
According to Hassan, their mutual understanding has now grown to the point where they openly discuss any issue that troubles them.
It is worth mentioning that Hassan Ahmed and Sunita Marshall married in 2008 and have two children. Despite belonging to different religions, while Hassan being a Muslim and Sunita a Christian, the couple is occasionally subjected to public criticism for their interfaith marriage.
