slamabad: The federal government has decided to grant four public holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr across the country.

According to reports, the holidays will fall on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, during which government offices will remain closed for four consecutive days.

Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Anjum Nazir, said that 30 fasts are expected this year during Ramadan. He added that the meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held in Islamabad on March 19, but scientifically it is impossible for the Eid moon to be sighted on that day.

He explained that the moon will be born at 6:23 AM (Pakistan time) on March 19, and by sunset its age will be about 12 hours.

According to scientific observations, the crescent is generally visible through a telescope only when it is more than 14 hours old, making the sighting of a 12-hour-old moon extremely difficult.

Based on these estimates, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on Saturday, March 21, though the final announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
