Peshawar: A powerful explosion ripped through a major gas pipeline in Peshawar’s Hassan Khel tehsil on Wednesday, igniting a large fire and disrupting gas supplies to several districts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said.

Blast Ignites 24-Inch Pipeline

According to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), the blast set ablaze a 24-inch pipeline that transports gas from Karak to Nowshera. Emergency teams were dispatched immediately to shut off supply and contain the fire.

Widespread Disruptions Expected

Waqas Shinwari, General Manager at SNGPL, told local media that the explosion will affect gas supply to consumers in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan and Swat. He said technical teams have reached the site to isolate the damaged section and prevent further hazards.

Cause of Explosion Under Investigation

Shinwari added that the cause of the blast has not yet been determined, and engineers will assess the site once the fire is fully controlled. Authorities have cordoned off the area until the situation stabilizes.

Police Examine Possible Terror Link

Meanwhile, Peshawar’s Capital City Police Officer, Dr. Mian Saeed, said investigators are examining all angles, including the possibility of terrorism. He urged nearby residents to stay clear of the affected zone as firefighters and gas company officials work to halt the blaze.

Officials said further details will be released once the fire is contained and the investigative teams complete their initial review.
