Details of the facilities available to PTI founder Imran Khan in jail have emerged in the report submitted to the Supreme Court by Friend of the Court Barrister Salman Safdar.

According to the report, Imran Khan expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements and the food provided in jail. He also described the ventilation and lighting arrangements in his cell as satisfactory.

The report states that he has a prison orderly assigned to him for laundry and cleaning duties, including cleaning the washroom and the cell. He expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness arrangements.

Additionally, during winter he is provided with a small heater and blower, and hot water is available in the cell at all times. During the summer, due to intense heat and humidity, he is provided with a room cooler. However, he mentions that during the summer months there are mosquitoes and insects, and he has suffered food poisoning two to three times.

According to the report submitted in court, approximately 10 cameras are installed near his cell. One camera is positioned up to the shower area, but there is no camera inside the room itself. Imran Khan did not object to the installation of cameras, stating that they were for his protection. There is also a 30×12-foot green area near the cell so that he can get sunlight.

Regarding food, he stated that for breakfast he received one cup of coffee, porridge, and some dates. He has the authority to select his weekly menu, and he pays for his meals personally. The weekly meal plan includes chicken on two days, meat on two days, and lentils or chaat/sandwiches on two days. Nestlé bottled water is provided.

He said “he does not eat a full dinner at night and instead relies on fruit, milk, and dates”. He is not allowed to keep knives, forks, or utensils inside the cell.

Concerning his daily routine, Imran Khan states that he has breakfast at 9:45 am and reads the Quran for one hour. Limited exercise equipment is available, including an exercise machine and 9-kilogram stone weights.

From 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm, he remains inside the cell. He had access to approximately 100 books, and a 32-inch television was provided but did not function when turned on. He has not had a dental check-up for the past two years.

Regarding meetings, the report states that he said he had not been allowed to meet his lawyers for five months and had not been meeting family members either. However, after the change of the jail superintendent, he was allowed to meet his wife once a week on Tuesdays for 30 minutes. He further stated that in 2025 he was allowed to speak to his sons, Qasim and Salman, twice by telephone.

The report also includes medical details. Imran Khan stated that he has been imprisoned for the past two years and four months. Until October 2025, his vision was 6/6, but afterward he began experiencing blurred vision, and the vision in his right eye deteriorated to about 15 percent functionality. He was informed that he had a blood clot.

During the meeting, his eyes were continuously watering. He said that for three months he was treated only with eye drops, which were ineffective. Considering his age, he emphasized the need for regular blood tests and requested examination by his personal physicians, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yousaf, or by a specialist eye doctor.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice remarked that the PTI founder is in state custody and must be provided medical facilities equal to those given to other prisoners; however, no extraordinary concessions will be granted.

Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan assured the court that access to specialist eye doctors and telephone contact with his children would be provided.

The court directed that these measures be completed before February 16. The court allowed access to an eye specialist but rejected the request for a family member to be present during the examination, stating that providing healthcare facilities is the responsibility of the state.
