Sydney’s Bondi Beach

Web Desk: Australian authorities have arrested five additional suspects near Sydney’s Bondi Beach as an ongoing investigation into a recent security incident expands, citing information shared by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

New arrests deepen investigation

According to officials, the latest arrests include four Indian nationals and were carried out as part of a rapidly widening probe. The detentions come days after initial suspects were taken into custody, signaling that investigators are now examining a broader network than first anticipated.

Authorities said the operation near Bondi Beach was conducted following fresh intelligence inputs, underscoring growing concerns about the scope and coordination of those involved.

The Print refuted claims of Indian Media

Earlier an Indian news outlet has cast doubt on claims circulated by segments of Indian and Israeli media that attempted to link Pakistan to a deadly incident at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, challenging a narrative that spread rapidly in the hours after the attack.

In a report published by Indian digital outlet The Print, authorities were cited as confirming that the suspect, identified as Sajid Akram, had no connection to Pakistan and was instead of Indian origin. The report said Akram migrated from India to Australia in 1998 and hailed from Hyderabad in the southern state of Telangana, adding that investigators found no documentary or official evidence tying him to Pakistan.

Moreover, Australian officials, according to the report, sought information from Indian authorities during the probe and did not indicate any Pakistani link, a finding that undercuts speculation amplified on social media and television platforms. As a result, the narrative portraying the incident as having cross-border or ideological ties to Pakistan has unraveled, highlighting how early assumptions and unverified claims can collapse once verified information emerges.
