Sindh has decided to reduce the price of flour by Rs6 per kilogram following an emergency meeting between the provincial food minister and the Flour Mills Association.
An emergency meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman, attended by Karachi Commissioner and Food Secretary Ghulam Abbas Naich.
The meeting expressed concern over the sudden increase in flour prices. Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman said flour mills had raised prices by Rs15 to Rs16 per kilogram in a single day, prompting concern from the Sindh chief minister and chief secretary as well.
The meeting decided to reduce the ex-mill price of flour from Rs161 to Rs155 per kilogram.
The provincial minister said the Sindh government had provided a subsidy of Rs76.5 billion to wheat growers through the Agriculture Department, while the province had recorded a record wheat harvest this year.
Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman said the sudden increase in flour prices was a matter of concern under these circumstances.
