ISLAMABAD: The authorities Thursday arrested the facilitator and handler of the suicide attack on the city’s judicial complex, according to police sources.

Law enforcement agencies acted swiftly to detain both suspects. The facilitator had been residing in Rawalpindi for the past month, while the handler was apprehended from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. So far, police and intelligence agencies have taken five individuals into custody in connection with the attack.

Sources revealed that both the facilitator and the suicide bomber had conducted multiple reconnaissance visits to the judicial complex to finalize the attack plan. After their arrest, the suspects were transferred to an undisclosed location.

The facilitator was caught in the Dhok Pracha area and had also been scouting key locations in Rawalpindi Cantonment. Both the facilitator and the handler were apprehended within 40 hours of the incident.

Earlier, State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry stated that the suicide bomber involved in the recent Islamabad court attack was from Afghanistan. Preliminary investigations indicate that the attacker neither understood local languages nor was familiar with Pakistani currency.

The minister added that the bomber traveled around Islamabad on various motorcycles and faced difficulties paying fares in Pakistani rupees.

The attack, which took place on Tuesday, killed at least 12 people and left 36 others injured.
