Web Desk: DG ISPR said that Taliban fighters, backed by allied proxies, launched unprovoked attacks on 53 locations in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, prompting a large-scale retaliatory response.
Maj. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said the armed forces acted swiftly to counter what he described as coordinated cross-border aggression.
“The Taliban, along with their proxies, opened unprovoked fire at 53 locations in KP,” the DG ISPR said during a press briefing.
In response, Pakistan gave what he called a “befitting response” to the Taliban regime. He added that the Pakistan Army repulsed the aggression immediately and effectively, pushing back attacking fighters and targeting their positions across the border.
According to military figures, Pakistani forces killed 274 Taliban fighters and injured more than 400. The army also destroyed 73 posts and captured 18 others during the operation.
The DG ISPR described the operation as ongoing, saying the response to Afghan aggression continues and “will not end until directed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, the military spokesperson said Pakistani forces carefully selected military targets inside Afghanistan to avoid civilian harm.
“Military targets in Afghanistan were carefully selected to ensure no civilian collateral damage occurred,” he said.
Rejecting foreign media reports alleging civilian casualties, he added, “The whole world saw fireworks in the Kabul sky last night,” referring to the intensity of the strikes.
Furthermore, the DG ISPR said Islamabad expects the Taliban leadership to make a strategic choice going forward.
“The Taliban regime must choose between Pakistan and terrorist organisations,” he said, reiterating that Pakistan’s political leadership and institutions remain aligned in their stance against militancy.
Earlier the Senate of Pakistan unanimously approved a resolution condemning the alleged Afghan intrusion into Pakistan. Presented by PPP Senator Sherry Rehman, the resolution accused Afghan Taliban forces of attacking Pakistan, calling the act a violation of international law.
It affirmed that Pakistan’s sovereignty and national dignity will not be compromised and that any aggression will be met with a proportionate response. The resolution also praised the bravery and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and emphasized their steadfast defense of the country.
Highlighting Pakistan’s 40-year history of hosting Afghan refugees, the resolution criticized Afghanistan for repeated hostile actions, urging the Afghan regime to declare a ceasefire and calling on the international community to take notice.
