Web desk: Authorities sealed off the Red Zone in Islamabad on Saturday afternoon ahead of a planned protest rally toward the U.S. Embassy, citing security concerns and traffic management needs.

Officials announced that all routes leading to the high-security area have been completely blocked. The protest is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. local time from Markazi Imam Bargah in Sector G-6/2.

Authorities confirmed that Constitution Avenue, 4th Avenue, Isfahani Road, AKM Fazal-ul-Haq Road and Ataturk Avenue are closed to traffic. In addition, Sector G-6/2 and surrounding areas are expected to face significant disruptions.

Meanwhile, officials advised residents and office staff to avoid the Red Zone and all roads along the protest route. They urged commuters to plan their travel in advance and allow extra time for their journeys.

Police recommended alternate routes, including Srinagar Highway, 9th Avenue, Margalla Road and IJP Road. Authorities also instructed citizens to keep identification documents with them at all times during movement across the city.

At the same time, officials directed police and the local administration to handle protesters with understanding and respect. Authorities emphasized that law enforcement personnel should recognize the emotions of demonstrators and engage with them in a dignified manner.

Organizers are arranging iftar for protesters, as many participants are observing fasting during the holy month.

Maryam Nawaz acknowledged that many citizens are grieving and emotionally affected. However, she stressed that maintaining peace and order in the country and its cities remains a primary responsibility.

“Every Muslim is saddened and tearful at this time, but preserving law and order in our country and cities is our foremost duty,” she said. “In this moment of grief, we stand united.”

Authorities said they will continue to monitor the situation closely as the protest unfolds.
