Web Desk: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound sorrow on Sunday over the reported martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, offering condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan and pledging solidarity with Tehran during what he described as a moment of deep grief.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif said Pakistan stood shoulder to shoulder with the Iranian leadership and its citizens. He added that the people of Pakistan shared equally in the mourning of their “Iranian brothers and sisters” and conveyed heartfelt sympathies over the loss.

Sharif described Khamenei as an influential and pivotal global figure whose leadership shaped Iran’s course through critical periods. He said the incident marked a major shock for the region and underscored the gravity of the moment.

At the same time, the prime minister stressed the importance of upholding international law and diplomatic norms. He said Pakistan regarded respect for state sovereignty and adherence to international principles as indispensable.

Targeting heads of state under established diplomatic conventions was a deeply troubling development, Sharif said, warning that such actions could endanger regional and global peace and stability. He emphasized that preserving established norms remained essential to preventing further escalation.

Furthermore, Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s desire to see tensions subside and peace restored across the region. He said Islamabad remained committed to playing a constructive role in promoting stability, mutual respect and dialogue among states.

Concluding his remarks, the prime minister prayed for forgiveness for Khamenei and strength and patience for the Iranian people to endure what he called a tremendous loss. He reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to stand by its “brotherly country” in difficult times and work toward advancing peace and stability in the region.
