Actor Arslan Butt has made a copy of a legal notice public, sent to fellow actor Mamya Shajaffar over an interview in which she termed his behaviour “uncomfortable”, while working on a joint project.
The notice has referred to Shajaffar’s appearance on Iffat Omar’s YouTube show. She opened up about her experience on a set without labelling anyone initially. But online users linked her comments to Arslan Butt.
Mamya Shajaffar’s interview with Omar was released on May 21. In it, she mentioned a number of instances in which “Arsalan’s” behaviour made her “feel uncomfortable”.
She also recalled an incident in which the director had directed her and “Arsalan” to work together and he approached her for a hug. Shajaffar said she told him to stay away four times while backing away and when he didn’t listen, she responded in an aggressive manner.
The present legal notice terms the allegations made by Shajaffar against “Arsalan” as “fabricated, baseless, and defamatory” and said they had caused damage to his reputation in public, mental distress and humiliation” to Butt.
The notice demands Shajaffar “withdraw accusations”, “remove the defamatory conten”, “issue a clear, unconditional public apology and retraction” on YouTube and “to avoid repeating such allegations in the future”.
In case she does not fully comply within 14 days, the notice said Butt’s legal team would “initiate civil defamation proceedings, criminal proceedings and all other solutions available under Pakistan penal code”.
