Web Desk: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) police released a comprehensive security briefing on Monday, confirming that law enforcement agencies registered 81 criminal cases and arrested 425 individuals during a massive state-wide crackdown against the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
The official law enforcement briefing, issued by the Office of the Inspector General of Police on June 15, 2026, details a highly volatile security situation that has resulted in significant casualties and structural damage across the region.
According to police records compiled between June 6 and June 14, 2026, violent operations led by the outlawed group claimed the lives of four law enforcement personnel, including a sub-inspector, while leaving 89 other officers severely injured.
The most severe clashes occurred in Rawalakot, where miscreants attacked the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), subjected patients to physical violence, and vandalized state infrastructure.
Furthermore, attackers fired nearly 30 direct gunshots at an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) vehicle. The attackers also completely destroyed two police APC vehicles using tire-piercing spikes and incendiary markers.
In response to the escalating violence, authorities deployed a heavily reinforced contingent of law enforcement personnel to Rawalakot to restore administrative control and maintain public order.
Beyond the localized clashes, the civil unrest severely impacted daily life across Bhimber, Mirpur, Kotli, Sudhanoti, Bagh, Jhelum Valley, Muzaffarabad and Neelum.
While sporadic shutter-down strikes and wheel-jam protests paralyzed local markets police forces successfully provided full security cover to willing traders and vehicle owners to keep public transport functional.
Consequently, raids executed across the state yielded a massive cache of illicit materials from the arrested suspects. Police forces recovered 15 automatic weapons a vast amount of live ammunition wireless communication sets state of the art surveillance tools and sensitive documents from the detainees’ possession.
Following these discoveries, the government placed more than 400 active members and leaders of the banned JAAC onto the anti-terrorism Fourth Schedule watch list.
Transitioning to the current state of regional security, the Inspector General’s spokesperson announced that tactical strategies implemented by AJK police and allied law enforcement agencies have successfully restored general peace.
All major entry points into Azad Kashmir have officially reopened and traffic flow between key districts has returned to a normal pace.
Finally, the police department issued an urgent appeal to the general public, calling on citizens to remain peaceful, reject unverified online rumors, and cooperate fully with legal institutions.
The administration strictly warned residents to avoid illegal gatherings, distance themselves from proscribed organizations, and immediately report any suspicious activities or armed individuals to the nearest police station.
